September 2008 Letters
Every person communicates with everyone with whom contact is made. With or without words. Two lovers look into
one another’s eyes. Without a sound, they say “I love you.” They experience “communion”, that is a common union,
or oneness. Because of that oneness, they understand what the other says without benefit of words. We may not
write letters to dear ones some distance away and feel somewhat guilty because we are too busy to communicate. But
the very absence of letters tells a message. Although some may not write to family members because they don’t have
email, a message gets through anyway. The absence of letters may say, “I am extremely busy in the many roles I
play” or “I am too busy to keep in close contact as I once did”, or a host of others.
Communication is necessary to getting to know the soul of another, and to being known by another; it is in this deep
knowing that our lives take on real meaning. Communication is to knowing and loving what the respiratory and
circulatory systems are to the body. When the flow of blood stops, or the blood is no longer purified by the oxygen
brought into the body, the body dies. When communication stops, love dies and it is then that resentment or other
similar negative emotions may be born.
Communication does two things: it brings significant relationships into being, and it can revive relationships that
have waned or that we thought once were dead. The one proviso is that the effort at communication mutually
proceed from both parties, and those involved must keep on and keep on keeping on in those efforts. A one-sided
attempt at a meaningful exchange has little chance for success.
The chances for success at understanding are increased when two or more people participate in positive
communication. Positive communication does not mean that we “yes” others or always agree with their views—any
more than they must adopt or agree with ours. Indeed, when two people reach the heights through their
communicative efforts they often hold diametrically opposed views, but each knows where the other stands in
thought. Positive communication does mean that we maintain conscious control over what we communicate.
You take a risk each time you try to communicate; you may be ignored completely. But you may not be, too. The
miraculous results of two people taking the same risk, and accepting their fear of doing so, make the risk of rejection
well worth taking; not just occasionally, but with each new acquaintance.
Positive communication is giving oneself, one’s thoughts, and feelings to be viewed and known by another(s), and to
come to know those other’s thoughts and feelings. Achieving such communication is not easy, which is the most likely
reason for its rarity. Only as we achieve communication among individuals, and nations, can understanding and
therefore peace between and among nations be achieved. Watching the camaraderie among Olympic athletes always
brings extra hope for the world.
With love,

Thanks To You All
There are so many people who do so much to make Unity Christ Church a Spiritual Home for all those who seek to be
transformed by the “TRUTH”. As the President of the Board of Trustees, I would like to take this time to acknowledge
these individuals for all that they do to create an atmosphere of love, support and inspiration. Often these individuals
go unnoticed and unacknowledged as they perform all the many tasks that keep our Spiritual Community functioning
in such synchronized order.
I would like to first acknowledge our Office Manager, Judy Lindow. She is such a wonderful “Spirit.” She is the one
that insures that the day to day operations of the Church run smoothly and without incident. She is so “organized”
and “committed” to our church. She often performs duties that lead her far beyond the realm and scope of her role as
an employee. And we are truly thankful for her Spirit of Service.
And, then of course, there are those wonderful volunteers who do so much selfless work that often goes
unacknowledged. The Board of Trustees brings to mind one such particular group of Volunteers. First, there is Pam
Anderson, who is the Vice -President of the Board. She is filled with such energy and enthusiasm for Unity Christ
Church that she radiates this essence of love to others. There is Judith Coleman, who serves as the Board Secretary
and who can also be seen (on any number of Sundays) serving as Platform Assistant. She is organized, efficient and
makes sure that we, as a Board, strive to be “effective” and “efficient” as well. Then of course, there is Brian Korte.
He is best known for his knowledge of the sound system of our church and he also serves as the chair of the Audio
Team. He is steady, thoughtful and brings his own sense of balance to the Board of Trustees. Now, Ken Palmer is
that member who is filled with the songs of the Universe, and serves as the Minister of Music as well. He challenges
us to clearly examine all sides of all issues. Then, there is Elizabeth Okenfuss. She is considerate, kind, and as well
as, committed to performing an excellent job as a member of the Board. And the final member is David Tyndall. He is
the Treasurer of the Board and he is very efficient with numbers. He brings this aptitude and his genuine
commitment to Unity Christ Church and the Board.
Personally, I am very thankful and truly grateful to have had the pleasure and the privilege to serve on the Board of
Trustees with these individuals this year. They have made this year, not only enjoyable, but Spirit filled as well. Our
church is truly blessed to have such loving and committed Spirit filled “Beings of Light”.
I would also like to take this time to acknowledge all of the other volunteers that contribute to keeping our church
moving forward, making Unity Christ Church, a Sacred Place where “All People” are loved, supported and cared for
unconditionally. There are so many of you that I dare not name you all for I do not wish to exclude anyone, but you
know who you are--- You are The Ones with Wings--- and I would like to say, “You are loved, blessed and
appreciated for all of the many things that you do, “Both Seen and Unseen”. It is because of, “All of You”, that we
have been able to radiate unto the community and unto the world the “Presence and Power of Spirit” that Unity was
created to express. And for this, let us all…………..
“Be Thankful And Grateful”.
Blessings to You All As We Spiritually Unfold Together,
Juankee J. McKinney,
President, Board of Trustees

A Thought & A Prayer: On Source and Substance from our Minister
|
“That which God would say to you and do through you is a great secret that no man on the face of the earth knows,
or ever will know, except yourself as it is revealed to you by the Spirit that is in you” (Lessons In Truth, 115). Emilie
Cady said these words in her chapter on “The Secret Place of the Most High” in which she also says that this
knowledge of the presence of the One Spirit in us is the key to “all power.”
Dr. Cady is speaking of the personal knowledge of and relationship with God. Sometimes it is hard to grasp that this
creator of the universe, this matrix of energy out of which all that is was formed, is also personal to each one of us.
Spirit does not reveal to me what is for you, nor does Spirit tell you a message meant for me. Each of us must deal
directly with the Spirit that is in us.
When we deal directly with Spirit, we are assured that we are led to ideas and resources to provide abundantly for
us. There are numerous techniques told to us about how to prosper. They may be called secrets, how-to’s, ways to get
what you want, etc. These are tools we can use, but at the heart of all of it must be God. If we are to truly prosper, it
is the relationship with God that we seek, and all else is added, including the stuff.
A relationship with God means that we seek within, to that part of ourselves that transcends thought and feeling, for
answers. No matter the language that we use, no matter what name we use for God, it is the relationship that
matters. We seek guidance within ourselves, and Spirit reveals to us what we need. Simple? Yes, very. Easy? Not
at all. Yet each of us is capable and worthy of this relationship. We are the beloved of God, created by and in the
image of the One.
God loves you and so do I!
